Health365 arranged a medical facility visit by doctors (comprising internal medicine specialists, diabetologists and surgical oncologists) from the Philippines to Singapore Institute Of Advanced Medicine Holdings (SAM) at their premises at Biopolis. During the visit on 22 Aug 23, the doctors were given a tour of SAM’s premises, including their diagnostic imaging facilities and proton therapy centre. The doctors were also given a briefing about the benefits and applications of proton beam treatment for cancer.
Medical Facility Visit To Proton Beam Facility Allowed Visiting Doctors An Insight Into Advanced Cancer Treatment Capability
Proton beam therapy is an advanced form of radiation therapy for cancer treatment. As of Aug 2023, there are only 3 cancer centres in Singapore that have proton therapy facilities (one of which is SAM). In all of Southeast Asia, the only other facility is at the Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Proton Center in Bangkok. This visit to SAM was thus a valuable opportunity for the visiting doctors to see firsthand, one of the most advanced cancer treatment technologies available.
The doctors gave positive feedback about the visit, and they found it a useful learning experience.
Medical Continuing Professional Development Can Take The Form Of Site Visits
